Hi Matt,
I run two P-Mags on our 320. I think that the self powered "P" model is the only model they are producing now. Most folks figured out that for a very few bucks more you could have an independent, self powered electronic ignition and nobody was buying the unpowered model. Installation was pretty straight forward, nothing tricky, just follow the directions. You can mount the units at any angle you want, you don't need to turn them to time them. When you've got it bolted on at whatever angle is most convenient for you you put the prop at TDC, enter setup mode and "tell" the P-mag that this is TDC by applying slight pressure on a tube. Once the unit knows where TDC is, you're done.
I see no advantage to one E-Mag and one magneto other than cost. In cruise, the E-Mag will always fire before the mag and by the time the mag fires there will be very little charge left to light. Since the P model is self powered I can't see any advantage to carrying a mag. Total electrical failure has no effect on the P-Mag. As a matter of fact, this is part of my runup: turn off power to both ignitions and do the standard "mag" check. This confirms that each unit is operating under its own power.
Again, I have no connection to E-Mag. I use and like their product but have no other ties to them.

----Original Message----- Bill,
I am considering going with the E-Mags. Can you provide some details
on your use in your 320? Are you using two of the the P-version
Emags, or one regular and one P-version? Was installation as easy as
they indicate on their website? I'm kicking around the idea of one
E-Mag and one magneto - thoughts? Anything else that you can think of
about the E-Mags would be helpful.
Thanks,
Matt McManus
