I've installed autopilots in two Lancairs. There are several choices;
I chose the TruTrak DigiFlight II VSGV because at the time I judged it
to be the "best" choice to interface with a Garmin GNS 480 (with the
understanding that I didn't care about a coupled ILS - GPS is replacing
or augmenting it everywhere).
It is not a tremendously difficult job, but can be a bit tedious. When
they work they tend to work great.
Now the choices are more than they were, some integrated with an EFIS
(which you may want anyway). TruTrak and DigiFlight are probably still
the most "mature;" Dynon seems to have gotten through most of it's
teething problems (built into an EFIS); MGL is up and coming and much
loved by their use base.
My only recommendation? Consider your aircraft as an entire system
rather than thinking about one component at a time.
Good luck!

I'm
looking at a nice 320 to buy for about $60k but it has no auto pilot.
If anybody here can give an idea as to the amount of work I could
expect to install a 2-axis A/P (pitch & roll) it would be greatly
appreciated? Recommendations for type would also be appreciated as
well as any cost estimates.
Thanks,
Danny
