Stan, I waited until I had run the engine on the airframe before designing
the panel. I am very glad I waited. I highly recommend waiting. After considering Dynon, Advanced
Flight Systems, Grand Rapids, etc. I ended up deciding to go with dual-screen Garmin G3X. I actually flew out to Steinair and spent
several hours playing with the various systems side by side before deciding. I eliminated all vacuum instruments and
instead installed a "z-14" dual electrical system. I used three 2.25 inch round gauges in addition to the two glass
screens. Of course the airspeed and altimeter are mechanical. The attitude indicator is electronic (tru-track), but has
its own backup battery. Spend $3k more and you can get a mechanical AI, but I chose the less expensive
route. I did my own layout in turbo-cad, which is attached. I bought the entire package from Steinair and had
them wire the entire system. They also cut the panel inserts on their NC router and did the lettering for me.
Took about six months from initial discussions to delivery. -- Jeff
