Hi Bob-
Good
idea- would that be based on experience?
It's been a while since I've been thinking
about this so if I get the specifics wrong that's my excuse. I'm keeping an eye
out for #8 Unbrako screws to replace the #6's used in the mechanism. I think
they could be incorporated with minor changes to the slot (filing) in the
handle barrels and that'd provide increased strength to a part that seems prone
to failure. Perhaps Lancair could source them- Justin?
OTOH it did seem to prevent at least one
break-in. -Bill Wade

Subject: [LML] Re: Emergency Door Opener
for IV-P
Wolfgang,
That’s
where I keep it-in the luggage compartment. On the IV series of aircraft, the
luggage compartment is accessible from outside the airplane (unless someone
installed its latching mechanism in the cockpit—and I have seen a couple of
these).
A
related tip: Consider carrying a ½” open/box wrench and Phillips screwdriver
inside the cockpit at all times if you’re flying an IV/IV-P/ES. If any part of
the door latching mechanism fails, these are your ticket out of the airplane
without having to break something.
