If you have a B&C alternator: Check
the plug-in connection to the back of the alternator. If the push-on (blade, fast-on
?) female tab type connections are slightly loose or have any corrosion the
resistance of the circuit goes up and is very inconstant and not in-line with
the commanded alternator output.
This can cause the regulator to loose
control of the bus voltage and alternator output. When it senses over voltage it
crowbar opens the field breaker. I struggled with this for several months until
I solved it. Just removing the connector and pushing it back on can temporarily
solve the problem for a while, even months, but it will come back at some point
unless the connectors are replaced.
Also, using both of the field connectors in
parallel on the B&C alternator significantly improves connection
reliability.

I was thinking about that and checked when
I last replaced my battery... over 500 hours ago. I will probably order a
new one now just in case.
Thanks

Subject: [LML] ALT FLD CB Problem
Hello all,
I flew my 360 to Tangier Island yesterday and on the way back to Princeton,
NJ, my ALT FLD CB popped out at least four times during the short 45 minute
trip. In the past, occasionally, this CB will pop out write after I start
the engine and that would be it. Anybody on the list have had a similar
problem with the Alt Field popping out? Please advise.
Thanks much,
Rick Argente
