yes you can do that.
My thought is not to. A fast climb is so short why not just get it over with and get on your way?
Besides, there's enough going on then it's nice not to have to constantly fool with the mixture.
I bought the plane to go fast and I'm already saving 25-30 gph by not having a turbine.
I fly LOP a) because I think it's better for the engine in cruise and b) because it affords better range.
I would view WOT full rich as better for the engine in climb that LOP even if done properly.
For 2 more gals per flight it seems like a fair trade.

I think that your rationale on the fuel boost pump use was right on.
Also, I remember that George B. from Ada recommended climbing WOT but I don't recall him mentioning leaning. However, I believe that Walter A. in a later post mentioned leaning to 1275 EGT for takeoff/climb? Thought/Comments???
