Subject: [LML] Re: Now for something
completely different
I discovered a small crack in my ES mount
a couple years ago (one week before Fredericksburg). I had the
old style mount without the plates that box in the strut mounts and the
gussets on the forward isolator arms. The ES uses the same mounting
system for the strut as the IV, but we don't have the mechanism to swing the
gear. After discovering my crack and after posting it to the Yahoo ES
group, a couple other guys found cracks in the same place. Several ES
guys have modified their old style mounts with gussets and plates boxing in
the strut mount area, basically bringing it up to current production
specs.
The other mod that has been done is to add a
crossbar and diagonal brace to the forward isolator arms. I think
structurally, it's superior to use the crossbars vs. the gussets. With
the IO-550N, you can run a straight crossbar between the isolators and clear
the oil pan. With the TSIO-550, you need to have a curved
crossbar.
I've attached a couple photos of my mount cracks
and the modifications.
