Unfortunately nose wheel shimmy is powerful enough to rip the mount apart.  Often times this leads to a bent prop, but not always.  Nose strut maintenance is absolutely critical.  If neglected it is just a matter of time before one will experience a shimmy.  The most basic things to check are fluid level, internal leaks, and damping force.
Also, a loose fitting strut, as well as, too little bearing friction will contribute to shimmy.
