Posted for " Fred Egli" <fvegli@email.msn.com>:
After about 300+ operations, my retract. step quit functioning. Upon
inspection, I found the 1/16 inch cable to be frayed, making it reluctant
to release the step when the gear was lowered. Looking further, I found the
1/4" stainless guide tube to be worn through at the main bend, thus causing
the fraying to occur. I wonder if others have had this type of failure and,
if so, what did they do about it? Flying with it extended seems to slow me
significantly ( 5 - 10 knots ).
Any suggestions are welcome as I'm too old, or lazy, to climb in and out
without some help.
