| John, on the subject of the drain, I concur that it is a nice addition but check clearances. On my recent purchase of a Legacy with IO-550N we put the Lancair on jacks and prepared to change oil and swing the gear during the pre-purchase inspection. The clearances to the nose gear were very close or possibly it was an interference with the draining apparatus installed and nose gear retracted. Probably not a common setup but worth noting because of the consequences.

The valve itself replaces the oil plug in the bottom of the oil pan and is safety wired. A screw-on opener screws onto the valve and opens the drain valve. Its handy because you can attach a clear tube to the opener, and screw the opener into the valve. Oil runs down through the tube and into the collection container rather than on to your nose gear linkage, your nose gear tire, or your shoe. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/saf_airF62.php I used this set-up successfully for many years on my Cessna T210. Is there any reason I would NOT want to use a similar setup on the Lancair Continental? Have any of you had experience with these suckers, good or bad, on the Lancair?
