Dennis,

Mike Campbell put out a video years ago about his beautiful Dreamcatcher 320 small tail then converted to big tail.  In the video, he said he had inverted fuel and oil systems.  In addition to inverted flight, he also did some flat spins on the video.

I remember Dave Morss gave some input on that and recommended that we don't spin the Lancair.  Dave Morss is the Lancair knowledge God so I trust whatever he says and I avoid stalls all together.  He has test pilot experience in just about every type of airplane out there AND he has red hair like me so I KNOW he's trustworthy!!!

I am grateful that my Lancair gives a nice shake before the stall.   I flew with Bill Rumburg who had a nice BEEP audio signal whenever the airspeed got below 100 mph.  That is nice because that is the most critical time when you are doing so many other things and it's easy to get distracted.

So, my opinion: avoid spins so avoid stalls that can lead to spins.  Lancairs do not want to fly like Piper Cubs and they get mad and insulted when you try to force them to fly like a Cub.  :)

Since we're talking about the Cessna spin that was apparently unrecoverable, while reviewing the documentation that came with my Advanced Flight Systems' Angle of Attack Pro, I noticed on the video that it looks like Jim Franz spins his Lancair 3x0.  It doesn't show the recovery, but he lived to narrate the video.  If anyone else with sharper eyes than mine has the DVD that came with the angle of attack indicator, take a look and let me know if it looks like a flat spin to you.

Still waiting for someone to report recovering from a spin in their Legacy,
Dennis
