Thanks everybody. I reread my post and realized that I was not clear. The small tail is already on the airplane. My wife is really freaked out about the "homebuilt" nature of the project and I'm trying track down every last detail to reassure her that the airplane will be safe before we finish it. I flew with Don Goetz in the red 320 and remember how hard he was working on short final. It sounds like I should finish the airplane with the small tail and move the aft C.G. forward 1.5 inches. My other issue is with the cowling that Lancair provided with the longer engine mount. Basically, I'm not happy with the quality and fit. Are there any builders who have fabricated molds and could provide a copy of their cowling or am I better off going to the effort to make a mold and cast new parts?
Lastly, where can one obtain the larger trim springs and geared trim assembly? Thanks for the help.

Hello Harper,
We've got the small tail and long engine mount on our 320. We've had no problems with the small tail and wouldn't change it even if it were a zero cost, 1 day job (which it certainly isn't). I would stick with the small tail and make the following modifications:
Shorten the control arm on the elevator to produce a little less stick throw with a little more stick force.
Install the geared trim system.
Install the larger trim springs.
As an added bonus, install a VHF nav antenna in the glass stab. Can't do that in the carbon MKII.
