Jim,

The only mount that I have is where the exhaust manifold attaches to the engine. At my last annual inspection, the AP said that I needed to brace the exhaust. I have no braces and the exhaust has never cracked. I am not going to fix what is not broken.

The 2 ends of the exhaust are pretty free to move so I wrapped then with insulating tape and a hose clamp. They are only attached to themselves, not to the engine mount or any other bracket.

I used to wrap the exhaust with insulating tape. About 5 years ago I had the exhaust ceramic coated (don't coat the heat muff area). Now, the exhaust is cool to the touch right after engine shut down.

Hello again folks-
About the cracks in my exhaust system, my A/P mechanic suspects that wrapping my exhaust system in exhaust manifold insulating tape (which I did after the first time we had to remove the system to weld some cracks) may have contributed to embrittlement of the system.  Any comments on this?  Are any of you wrapping your systems to reduce heat radiation in your cowl area?  How much should I expect for my system?  Is it normal to have to remove the system every year to weld cracks?

Thanks,

Jim Gigliotti
