It has been stated here on the forum by someone calling themselves
"Carlton" that I, Marshall Michaelian, have ownership interest in American
Engine LLC. That is completely false. Neither I nor any company which I
own fully or partially have any financial interest in American Engine LLC. What is true, and to which I have given notice both here on the LML and
originally on Compuserve AVSIG which was the predecessor to this forum, is
that I am the Manager of the LLC. Let me make this absolutely clear. Neither I, nor any company which I have a financial interest owns any part
of American Engine LLC. Who is Carlton? and why is he making false
statements about me? Could he be a competitor of American Engine? Is he
building a Lancair?
Carlton also states that I have " written some extremely rotten person
accusations about other engine company's staff" on this forum. What rotten
comments? Carlton also states that the Eagle engine is 99% "off the shelf" parts. This also is false. Carlton has never been to the Ontario, CA engineering
and engine development office (as Marv Kaye has). He has never inspected
the Eagle 540V8 engine, and is willfully ignorant about the engine
components. I should know, since as manager of the LLC, I pay the bills
for the block, head, intake, valves, valve seats, rods, cranks, accessory
case, main caps, rear caps, rocker arms, oil sump, gear box, and the dual
redundant electronic ignition/injection system. All of these items have
been developed by AE LLC and cannot be purchased off anyone's shelf except
those of American Engine. This is why it has taken three plus years to
develop this engine. I will have our engineer, Darrell Buehl, give a much
more detailed explanation of these critical engine components to this forum
as time permits, but in the meantime all LIV builders can learn why we
went to such lengths by reading the material on the web site:
americanengine.com. I did not want "another Chevy" in my LIV, and I
wanted to make sure that the engine in my plane was designed well, and was
built to high standards. Unfortunately, there will be those critics who will slam our attempt at
bringing out a new engine, such as Carlton has. I'm sure that he or other
"look alikes" will continue to criticize, especially as we approach initial
flight testing. Oh, this forum makes for interesting lurking, but as one
of the Lancair IV builders, who offers many suggestions on this forum, said
to me recently, "After mud wrestling with a hog for 5 minutes, you stop and
realize that the hog is enjoying it". OK, now I'll duck and cover as "Carlton" slings the mud. Cheers to all....
Marshall Michaelian (SQL, 80%LIV-P, Eagle 540V8)
PS. Carlton did raise an important point, and that is whenever you
increase horsepower you will need to make airframe enhancements so that the
plane will be able to handle the increase in horsepower. Mr. Curt Longo,
an aero engineer and American Engine's LIV airframe integration consultant,
whom many of you know, will intelligently answer "Carlton's" prediction of
poor handling qualities on this forum, and will explain the modifcations
that are necessary to improve the handling of a 500hp Lancair IV.
