Bob,

In early pre-certification testing, using both Facet wing pumps together, I think I got about 1.7 gpm (I'd have to check my POH) or about 100 gph, far in excess of my max takeoff engine consumption of 15.4 gph.  The length of time to fill it is not that important as long as the filling flow rate exceeds the emptying flow rate.  Each person should take their own measurements so that they know the flow rate.  Note that even one pump fills faster than the rate that the fuel would be used.

Of course, my header (9 gal) is automatically maintained to a full status - I have time if the pumps stop working.

For my information, what's the fuel flow rate, i.e., how long does it take
to get useable fuel into the header tank and how long does it take to fill
the tank? (Assume 12 gallons more or less.)

Subject: [LML] Out of Fuel (header)

Well I finally did it. I was flying at 6,500 ft across West Virginia
in the 6,000 ft mountains, singing along with a tape cassette,
enjoying the beautiful day, when the header tank ran dry. I just plain
forgot to pump fuel.

I gained about 500 ft while I slowed to 105 kts. Of course, the fuel
pumps were on instantaneously. By the time the engine was running
smoothly, I was back to my starting altitude.

I am glad that it was a non event. This was the first time that I had
forgotten, not just once but twice to pump fuel.
