Gerard,
If you are using the typical Vernier Mixture Cable and it
is not binding at the mixture arm connector or due to routing I would think it
would be a long lived installation.
The reason I am responding however, is this elegant
looking but dangerous connector. My hangar mate had his mixture cable
break at the entrance to this “Wire Grip” on two occasions. I
had a Carb Heat cable break in the same place using the same connector.
Here’s what is happening. If you have the correct “cushion”
or stand off when the knob is pushed all the way in, the cable will bend at the
weakest point. The “Wire Grip” is acting as a fulcrum by
pivoting at the rod end bearing (attached to the threaded end) and the leverage
causing the wire to flex at the point it enters the “Wire Grip”.
The wire broke in less than 50 hours every time.
The lawnmower tech “Bug Nut” will allow the
wire to smoothly bend and rotate at the pivot point, does not cost much and
lasts a long time.

PS: I told Vangrunsen and Jim Irwin at Spruce about
this after getting nowhere with the manufacturer of this device…………….
They still have it in their catalogs.
