OK, since people want the
information and pictures I'll give you what I have so
far.
They don't seem to put them in
order when I download them but they are numbered. You can see the installation
of the ECI system, the building of the new pipes (321 Stainless), the cowling
cuts and reconstruction, etc.
This engine is an IO-360, with
10:1's, some valve work, dual exhaust and a single EI. I've owned this
plane for three years. Past performance was a consistent 205 kts., 3500', 24",
2500 RPM. I now have only three flights with the ECI system and
the other changes. Preliminary performance, so far has been, consistent 216
kts., 3500', 25", 2400 RPM. The oil runs a little cooler, the CHT's are cooler
and the EGT's are very even (1380 deg's). The engine runs smoother with no
hesitation at all. Very obvious smooth power difference. The plane also
appears to fly a little more stable and lands a little better, this would be
from the weight loss and cowling changes.
Bare in mind....... I did more
then just install this ECI Cold Induction system. I removed weight, I removed
friction, better flowing exhaust and I've added more RAM pressure.
The changes in the cowling also has a big effect on the cooling, along with the
direct RAM air effecting the performance.
This ECI system is a newer
design that was made to fit in tighter places, like a Lancair cowl. I was asked
by ECI to see if it fits and works. Well, it fits and
works.
I still need more testing and
more numbers to put together. But so far I'm very impressed with the changes
I've done and the ECI Cold Induction system. I still need to test WOT and
sea level flights to see what the maximum MAP's are.
OK, the hard numbers... The
cost of the ECI Cold Induction system I think is under $3K and comes with just
about everything you'll need (can only be used with injected engines, of
course), to have the pipes made I would guess at about $1200, mics. stuff
(glass, foam, epoxy, aluminum, cables, oil, etc, etc, ) about $300, repaint cowl
??, plan on a few months of your time and a few sleepless nights.......
Blowing by your friends when
you push in the throttle.... Priceless.

Subject: [LML] Cold Induction
I don't know if anyone is
interested but I just spent the last couple of months installing the
new ECI Cold Induction system on my LNC-2, IO-360. I had to make new
exhaust, allot of little mods and change the cowling quite a bit but
after three test flights it looks like it was well worth the trouble.
I've gained noticable cruise
and climb speed, the engine runs cooler and smoother and strong. If there's
interest I'll post a link to the pictures of the work I've done and post
numbers, etc.
