Why not put the filter in the engine compartment? It is OK that the body is made
out aluminum. Heck, the whole engine is aluminum. Just don't use aluminum hard
line forward of the firewall.
I made a flange for an Airflow Performance filter and turned it into a giant
bulkhead fitting that penetrated the firewall. The flange epoxies to the mid line
of the cylindrical filter body and had three #10 bolts to hold it to the firewall.
It opens into the engine compartment and eliminates several fittings and
connections. Very slick.
