set up a mag engine to get the same power in one config.
In other words, if the main thing you care about is cruise, you could set
your spark timing to be just right for your favorite mixture and your favorite
rpm.
Some listers have indicated there are some
compensating virtues about using mags when LOP cruising at altitude.
All true, I'm sure, but - there is a dramatic
improvement in fuel economy when using EI systems. (even only
one).
On my IO-360, I see about 1.5 gal per hour
improvement at 7 to 10,000 ft. and more like 2 gph in the teens.
Does not this equate to MORE POWER?
Also, a common test is to shut off each system
alternately and look at CHT and EGT. It becomes evident that the EI is
burning more of the fuel in the cylinder and the straight mag is burning more
of the fuel in the exhaust header.
