My recollection is that the static lines in our C-182 (one on either side of fuselage) are configured as follows: static port, 90 degree fitting up, a small plastic bottle about 1 inch diameter by 3 inches long with an exit port out the top, then the line goes up for several inches before making its way forward to the panel. My earlier C-182 sat outside in the elements for 19 years and I never had a problem with water in the static lines although the tail cone filled with water once (slosh slosh while wiggling rudder in preflight). I think the bottles must help separate the water from air during cross winds, and lets the water subsequently drain out the static port. Fred
