disconnected the pitot and static lines from it and flew the plane.  The
result was that the gear would not retract. I'll have to still determine if
the leak is internal to the switch or at the connection. But that will be
easy!

There should be a bypass switch somewhere to allow you to check gear operation while the plane is on jacks.  It would be good if the switch was accessible in flight.
