For a Lancair 360 with only wing tanks, can anyone tell me whether or not it is typical to install filter screens at the pickup in each wing tank?  If so, is there any way to get to them?
Steve,

Generally, only cylindrical finger screens that can be constructed from brass screen material (like fly screen) and a brass fittings.  The seams and joints are soldered together and are about 3/8" x 4".  I am sure these can also be purchased.  These screens only trap LARGE particles and cannot be cleaned (the reason why they are so large in area) - remember that the tank filler openings are larger than the screen openings but smaller than a bread box.

The individual lines from the wings to the selector can be filtered to protect the selector and/or a fine Andair filter/gascolator can be provided before the pump(s).  If the setup is for an injected engine, there is another fine filter in the throttle body to protect the injectors.
