Can anyone tell me when the fly-in in Oregon is going to be?
Since I have been to every Redmond fly-in since Lancair has been in
Redmond from the early '90's, I can help out here with some general
info. Lancair can correct me and fill in with some details as Kimbra has
already done.
The Redmond Fly-in this year will be the same dates as it always has
been;
September 2 (Saturday) and September 3 (Sunday). The BBQ is
Saturday afternoon/evening. The race is Sunday morning.
There will be multiple activities during the day on Saturday. Contact
Lancair for details. There is usually also a Friday night BBQ put on by
one of Lancairs adjacent vendors (Mountain High).
About 50% of the Lancairs that fly-in, arrive throughout the day on Friday,
with the balance arriving Saturday morning.
Similar to past years, if arriving by air on Friday, before about 4 or 5
PM, the Redmond tower will instruct the pilots to taxi and park (temporarily) at
Butler Aviation across the airport from Lancair (shuttles will be provided back
and forth to/from Lancair) This is as a result of a summer school still
in session adjacent to Lancair. They (the school), in past years, has
gotten very upset (Lancair's phone starts ringing) with taxing aircraft
nearby. So, planes will be held at Butler until the school is closed in
the late afternoon on Friday, before allowing taxi parking at Lancair.
Now my opinion about Friday flying in. Since I have always arrived
early on Friday to watch arrivals throughout the day, it takes a lot of
the enjoyment out of the gathering on Friday. Although it sucks,
I still fly in on Friday in order to get together with pilot friends and
chat during the day until it is time for the late afternoon mass
taxi. We eat Friday lunch at the restaurant in the Redmond terminal
building.
One last thing. When taxing in either day, please shut down well
before your parking space. The rest of us do not want your dust and
dirt. And Jim C. gets the same parking space as last year with his
Legacy. It is marked "student" (see last years pictures). I will
have my usual parking space. It has my name on it (not really).
