I use several "Battery Tender Jr."  Device for my motorcycle, tractor and airplane if they are going to sit idle for any length of time.  The pig tail connector is located in my console glove box - handy for topping up or maintaining the battery and useful in the winter so that I can plug in my electric motorcycle jacket liner for a little extra warmth.
 
These are definitely safer than using an auto battery charger than can damage our sealed lead acid batteries by overcharging them.
