Just did a comparison of the Chelton and Grand Rapids. I came to the
conclusion that they net out about the same price once all the features
are balanced and additions to the GR system made to bring it up to the
Chelton equivalent. GR may be a grand or so less. GR's is making
changes to implement the synthetic terrain and options already on the
Chelton and looks like a great unit. I went with the Chelton as it is a
proven quantity and certified. The sport is not much different than the
certified system. Chelton is selling the unit with a TruTrack
Digiflight II autopilot included for $25,900. Two screens and a single
AHRS. The Chelton system has an internal GPS (12 Channel) WAAS capable.
The GR's system does not have the GPS and does not rely on GPS inputs
for its references as Chelton does. The say the least, it is confusing
and like you I hope I have made the correct choice.
Hope this helps.
