When trying to install the bayonet type CHT probes on my IO-360
(actually an XP-360, but the same thing) I found the probe installed in
#1 cylinder has a serious interference with the Lancair type EX-5
exhaust. Lots of you LNC2 people must have run into this problem. How
did you resolve it? I suppose I could use a gasket thermocouple, but
that seems like an unholy mix of apples and oranges. Would its
temperature reading be consistent with those of  the other three bayonet
probes?

I don't know if you have the same sodium filled probes that I have, but I very carefully bent the probe so that the spring would still hold it and I also put a stainless steel shield on the pipe:

 

Sorry I don't have a better picture.  You can see the SS shield clamped to the pipe and the extra bend in the probe.  Cyl # has always been my coolest CHT.
