The differences in probe placement from airplane to airplane are why each Target may be a few degrees different from airplane to airplane. These differences are generally fairly small.

We all drill holes in our exhaust to mount or EGT probes.  It's important that we have them equidistant from the cylinders, but....
 
How much difference in temperatures would, let's say, 1/2" in placement make?  Not from cylinder to cylinder, but from airplane to airplane.
