I'm planning to have my prop dynamically balanced next month.

I'm worrying about whether to remove the lower cowl also, considering that the prop blast might do it damage without the support of the upper cowl.

Maybe I worry too much,  what have others done?

Bob, definitely take the lower cowl off. You'll need to run the enging at cruise rmp, for me that was 2400 rpm. Thats a lot of energy hitting a cowling that is designed to work as a whole. Besides, you'll need full access to the fly-wheel for adding weights.
