I have been following all the discussion on alternate static source.  I thought I would weigh in with my solution.  I simply put a tee in the static line that goes to the VSI and capped it.  If I need alternate static I just reach under the panel and unscrew the plug.  I realize that does not work for a IV-P but for anything non pressurized I think it is a simple solution.
