Darry Greenamyer has a plenum on his #33 Legacy that he races at Reno. Not only does it cool very well, I think Darryl would be the first to say that the cooling drag reduction it provides is one of the reasons he goes as fast as he does.
 
I think that the points made about poor baffling vs. good baffling can be be said about a plenum.

Very interesting that you mentioned the plenum on the RV-8. I was thinking of going in that direction with my Lancair 360, but the previous owner says the current baffle setup is pretty good. In fact, my cht's on the O-360 run about 300-325. I guess I can cut down the inlet and outlet areas to cut some drag (I'm interested in racing...)
