The AOPA website today says that 80 octane avgas is on the way out. For
sure, this time. Kern oil refinery in Bakersfield (Shell/BP) has stropped
production of ALL avgas, according to the AOPA web site. Shell, only today,
announced it would keep the Kern County refinery open as a result of
pressure from everyone in the West. They produce 2% of our state's gasoline
as well as diesel and kerosine from the heavy crude here in the San Joaquin
Valley. Las Vegas gets the rest. Why is the national oil preserve here?
You should fly over Elk Hills some day and catch an eyefull of OIL! And
storage tanks and rigs and roads and all the infracture of a HUGE oil
industry operation. Shell/BP must have something up their sleeves... Go
figure...
BUT, if they stop making 100 octane we'll all be (upset),
