In the ongoing discussion of best glide speed, I haven't come across any
mention of the influence wind.  Best L/D only yields best range in a no
wind environment.  If gliding into a headwind you need to fly faster
than best glide speed to achieve best range over the ground.  The
opposite is true in a tail wind when best distance is achieved at a
lower speed.
