 I watched an old master one day at a 'Goodyear" air race do this.  Steve
Whitman in his yellow Bonzo was zipping past when he suddenly pulled almost
straight up out of the pack, then levelled off with stopped prop, glided
around to the runway and landed ... with about 6" off one prop blade.
