Rob,

With my Hartzell hydraulic compact constant speed prop, the default (no oil pressure) position is flat pitch (take-off position).  Everyone should move their prop control forward - flat pitch - while on approach to landing and note the increased drag from the propeller created disc.  It is interesting to know and sometimes useful to take a bit of speed out of the approach without changing the aircraft's pitch.

What about those electric props?  What about a total electric failure?  Huh?  Huh?  We have inquiring minds.
