After a bit of research the following is some engine mount info. On CONICAL Mounts, normally a sleeve is NOT required on most Lyc & Cont. installations. You have a Conical mount if the mount bolts are essentially horizontal. Normal torque for these Lord and most other mount donuts is 45 INCH_POUNDS, not Foot Pounds, since you are torqueing the rubber mounts themselves. If the attach bolts point inwards toward the center of the engine, it's a DYNA-FOCAL Mount and should have a steel sleeve over the bolt and require the torque rated for the bolt. The exotic V-8's and turbines are another matter, hope this clarifys things, Dan....
Dan,
Thanks for the info. It has always surprised me on how much special torque information remains obscure. A bolt/torque chart is only a starting point. Something like the Lycoming overhaul manual, with its torque specifications, is an essential reference. Some parts come with torque instructions - some do not. I.E. I found out from a prop shop that the bolts holding the spinner backplate should only be torqued to 22 ft lbs even though the bolt size would warrant a much higher torque. Sometimes a wizened mechanic has a useful rule of thumb - like nuts held from turning with internal star washers should be tightened only until the stars are flattened (and never use a used star washer). Well, we repairmen, nee manufacturers, always have something to learn.
