A bolt/torque chart is only a starting point. Something like the Lycoming overhaul manual, with its torque specifications, is an essential reference. Some parts come with torque instructions - some do not. I.E. I found out from a prop shop that the bolts holding the spinner backplate should only be torqued to 22 ft lbs even though the bolt size would warrant a much higher torque. Sometimes a wizened mechanic has a useful rule of thumb - like nuts held from turning with internal star washers should be tightened only until the stars are flattened (and never use a used star washer). Well, we repairmen, nee manufacturers, always have something to learn.
