Subject: LN360 Alternator breaker popping on gear up/down ops

I don’t recall the alternator field breaker popping on a single gear op,
but multiple ops such as touch-n-go’s, or emergency practice during
bi-ennials has caused it to pop.  The wiring is pretty much
AeroElectric’s schematic with a B&C LR-3 regulator, LR-60 alternator,
and B&C 100-1 (12 V 25 AH) battery.

My guess is that a voltage transient is tripping the crowbar in the
regulator, but it’s not clear where the transient is coming from as all
relay coils have MOVs or diodes on them.  I’ve never noticed when
exactly the breaker pops – I typically notice it after trimming out the
climb and checking.

I’m hoping someone with similar wiring may have already figured this
out, else I’ll start the troubleshooting process.

Thanks,
Charles Patton
