Yes Eugene, you can install both the original door pins and the new IV type latches on the same door, at the same time.
It seems at first that two systems will interfere with each other, unless you study them for awhile and use some ingenuity.
One advantage of using both latches is that the pin latches will start to engage before the hook latches do, and this will better line up everything, making the hook latches fall into place better. I did not have to file the bottom latches at all to make them work correctly.  Even though installing both system together is not all that difficult, it would be very hard to explain it in righting.
