I think the important number for EGT is not the absolute value, but where
you run relative to the peak value.

Here is a data point from my Lancair 235/320 for the collection:

Engine is IO320 with 9.5:1 compression, NO wrapping of the pipes.

EGT on climb, full rich, is from 1300 to 1350 degrees.
Cyl head temps run 300-350 degrees.

Full rich at 75% power is about 1250,  and the highest peak I can get is
around 1475-1525.   I normally run 100 to 150 rich of peak.
