I was making some adjustments to my canopy latch mechanism today. The
electronic remote release works flawlessly. Part of the associated mechanical
release includes about nine feet of .0625 stainless cable running inside .125
OD nylon tubing from behind the seat going forward and through the firewall,
making numerous bends along the way.The friction/resistance in the cable was
quite noticeable. Workable but not up to my usual anal standards.
The solution to this friction problem was to clean the stainless cable with
ascetone and then apply Permatex Anti Seize Lubricant #133A along the full
length of the cable. The cable was then reinserted into the nylon guide tube
and run back and forth a few times. This action left a coating of lubricant
inside the nylon tube. I removed the cable, reapplied more lubricant and
returned the cable to the tube. Almost ALL the friction went away....A VAST IMPROVEMENT!
So, I repeated the process with the rudder cables on both pilot and co-pilot
side. The movement of these cables was pretty good to begin with but now the
difference in before and after is like night and day! Get some Permatex Anti
Seize Lubricant #133A (almost anywhere) and I think you will be pleased with
the results. Oh by the way, I would highly recommend using this lubricant on
the threads of your main spar bolts.
