At Sun and Fun, I noted a number of Lancair installations that were using
plastic connectors to pass through the firewall.
That is terrible practice. Hard to imagine someone doing that. Some of
these were on "official" display. That caused me to take a look at the connector situation as part of our
PRISM ignition system application and some other projects in relation to the
firewall situation on Lancairs where there is sometimes a very thick core
composite firewall.
As a result, I have arranged for a limited production run of a custom
modified and extended **metal** MS bulkhead connectors.
These are 26 pin hermetic connectors, designed to work with composite
firewalls that are up to 0.5" thick.
They will take up to 20 AWG wire. They will install without having to relieve honeycomb structure and
reinforce that area with separate lay-ups. So far as I know there are no high quality - metal firewall MS connectors
available that will work with thick bulkheads, like the pressure vessel
bulkhead on the Lancairs.
These are the highest quality connectors available and are designed for use
in certified applications which will require HIRF and environmental
qualification. Cad platted and will meet a 500 hour salt spray
requirement. If anybody wants any of these, I need to know it ASAP, as it will make a
difference in the size of the limited production run that I order. Right now, the price will be 65 bucks each. They will be available in
limited numbers by OSH, and otherwise, by the middle of September. We may not have another production run of these for a year or more, so think
about it and let me know.
Regards, George
