Recent posters to the list have discussed various methods of setting the gap around the main gear doors. Here is another idea; instead of taping around the perimeter of the door, just cover the whole joint as well as areas that don't fit flush with a layer of micro and trace the perimeter of the door with a pen knife or other object that is as thick as the desired gap. The gap will be as perfect as your hand is steady. Then just block sand the micro flush you are done.
Another topic discussed recently was the pros and cons of bonding in the Legacy center section immediately vs. waiting until certain other jobs are completed. I have assisted on two at Lancair's builder's assistance week. The first was kit # 7, which predated Lancair's fuselage jig. The second was bonded in at the factory. On the next one I will install main gear/outboard gear doors into the ctr section as well as the spar closeout and control sticks. On the fuselage I'll do as much of the firewall stuff as possible. Pretty much everything else passes through the closeout ribs or needs some part of both pieces to complete the assembly. I suppose you could build the canopy as well.
