I don't want to write a feel good fluff letter but......
I insure with Avemco. They've paid me a very large claim (including my
labor) as a direct result of my own multifaceted incompetence. And I
apologize to all of you for my stupidities affects on your rates.
I echo the writers positive comments on Avemco. I did all those things and
pay $1800 / yr for my 360.
In short, if you've got an organization that can reduce my current premium
(including the expenses for training) I'd gladly be a part of it. I'm
getting hard pressed to believe that a 10-15% discount on my coverage could
cover much training. I can't really imagine that the IV guys and the 360
guys could be on the same sheet of paper on this one with the widely ranging
costs.
I too was raised with the "don't insure it, if you can afford to lose it"
mindset. To me this meant dropping Comprehensive on new cars after they
were a few years old.
I now have 170 hours on my plane. My skills are improving. I'm a 3000 hr
guy. You'd think I could figure out how to keep it out of the dirt. My
confidence in my aircraft systems are also improving (ie. I've got the bugs
worked out of it). She's runnin' like a sewing machine.
The net result of this discussion has been to convince me to drop my
airborne coverage following the completion of one more year.
In short thanks Dave, Dave, Brent, Curtis, and Marv for all the stimulating
brain food. I suggest we close this discussion and start talking about
airplanes again. My hard drive is gagged out with insurance discussions.
Again, I apologize for all the fluff.
