Speaking as one with chronic back pain (at right about the spot you are
bothered) I strongly recommend Temperfoam for your Lancair seats.
I'm using a single layer of the most dense (green) Temperfoam, which comes
from the manufacturer about 7/8 to 1 inch thick. It's enclosed in a
removable wool cover (wool is purported to be fire-retardant) and fits the
entire seat.
I often fly 3 hour legs with absolutely no back discomfort (different matter
with the bladder, however)! The stuff is very stiff when you first sit down
and seems like it couldn't be comfortable at all. However, within about 5
minutes, as your butt warms it up, the Temperfoam conforms to your shape and
becomes very easy to sit on. The best thing is, I've never had my usual back
pain develop as a result of a long flight leg.
Cheers,
Dan Schaefer
