Bob,
I've previously had lower back surgery after excess hours and G in a far
less comfortable aircraft (F/A-18). Hence, I was extremely sensitive about
my seat support.
I didn't do any changes to the basic shell. The advice I followed was to
use Temperfoam! I used 3" under the seat. (hard, medium, & soft) and 2"
behind the back (medium, and soft). Additionally, I slivered in a lumbar
support of 1/2" thick by about 5 inches high between to back layers.
Bottom line. Extreme comfort! The only downside is the ice cold mornings
which take the first 1/2 hour or so to thaw and soften the cushions
(lowering design eye position to it's proper level).
I've got a lot left over and the stuff costs a fortune. It was worth it to
me.
