In the Air Force we used to have a canopy breaker tool mounted on the canopy rail of the T-33. I found some of them in the civilian salvage yards adjacent to the "bone yard" at Davis Monthan AFB, in Tucson last year. It has a short 1" pointed solid steel blade on the end of a heavy, round steel handle and is designed to punch into the canopy to break it. It comes with a mounting bracket. For its size it has a lot of mass. It worked in T-birds.
