In reply to Fili's inquiry, John Forker flew the Lancair IV from New
Zealand to the US with an unplanned stop in Christmas Island due to fuel
problems.  John and I designed and built the tank together which Bruce
and Brent Sanchez subsequently borrowed to fly a pressurized Lancair IV
from Bahrain to the US.  Our design is a bladder, but unlike Gary Burns
installation, the bladder is contained in a frame made up of honeycomb
panels and restrained to survive greater than 10g forward impact loads
as might occur during a ditching.  ( large rigid tank will not fit
through the door  Our frame is assembled in place.)  I sent Fili the
write up I prepared and associated figures and pictures.  I believe I
also sent Marv a copy for use on the web site, so I believe all the
information from that exercise is generally available.  If not, let me
know, and I can email the files (which are many).

Having now settled a bit in our new home in Western Australia, I will
take some time in a few days to give you folks a trip report on Lancair
activities here in the great Australian west.  Briefly, I have seen
several beautiful aircraft, the workmanship standards here are as good
as anything I have seen in Oshkosh, and in our area. uncontrolled air
space extends up to 20,000 feet.  This is Lancair country, and at last
count there are more than 16 Lancair IVs flying or under construction in
Australia.  They include Frank Fry's turbine LIV which is, in my
opinion, a better installation, better engineered than the factory
turbine installation.  It looks nicer, too.  And Frank is making it yet
better with the assistance of a team of engineering personnel.
