For years I have been looking for a very lightweight life raft for use in
the
360 and later in our IV.  We fly routinely over the great lakes and they
can
be cold!  Less often we also over the costal oceans.

When I was in the Navy, we had to wear float coats on the flight deck that
we could auto inflate by yanking on a chord to inflate the coat.  A life
preserver will keep you afloat....but, as was mentioned....how visible are
you?  As a tool to be seen if swept off the deck we had a strobe that was
capable of being used that could be seen for a long long way.

I found them for sale in the ACS catalog under the pilot supplies section.
They are called Firefly Rescue Lite.  These are the same units that were
standard issue in the Navy.  It will definitely increase your chances of
being seen.

Now the only question is...how long can you survive while you float in water
that is less than your body temp before hypothermia sets in and you die from
exposure.
