The tie downs that I ordered and got with my kit are the screw in type. The
bolt width is at least 3/8" coarse thread. I believe that would be
sufficient to not worry about the threads stripping and letting go. I would
and probably will use the tie down that I have for weighting the tail
section. I wouldn't use the tie downs with the pin type either.
Marv's right except for the suggestion to use the rear tie-down ring as
the
point to tie off your tail. Use the strap-around-the-fuselage method and
secure it to a weight or (better) an anchor bolt properly mounted to your
hangar floor.
The reason? I've seen the neat little inserted pins (your removable
tie-down
ring) release when subjected to a straight down pull of a couple hundred
pounds. >
