I disagree; but I only had one semester of Aviation Law. An AC is not
regulatory, correct? I assume CFR-14, Part 91 regulates the test period. ...snip... If there is no written law, common sense should prevail. I prefer that actually. ; )

If you screw up and have an accident contrary to advice contained in an Advisory Circular the FAA will hang you from the yardarm. The case law on this is quite clear.
